RV Consultant & Empowerment Advocate

Welcome, fellow travelers! I’m April, your dedicated RV Consultant & Empowerment Advocate, committed to enhancing your RV journey. My life’s compass has always pointed toward exploration and learning, fostering a lifelong love affair with travel. I’ve been enamored with discovering new places and understanding diverse cultures from the earliest moments. This passion led me to various corners of the travel industry, allowing me to master the art of providing exceptional customer experiences.

In my dynamic career, I’ve worn numerous hats, managing businesses, nurturing teams, and embracing the adaptability demanded in ever-evolving landscapes. Some of my most valuable lessons were forged during the years I cut my teeth in the travel industry working as a VIP experiences call center manager with global leader, Delta Airlines. Let me tell ya, it was a soaring experience, honing my skills in addressing rapid-fire customer inquiries and ensuring VIP satisfaction reached unparalleled heights. These interactions as well as the vast travel opportunities this career provided gave me a unique lens to comprehend the intricacies of customer satisfaction and diverse travelers’ needs, enriching our journey together.

Living life as a full-time RVer with my family in a snug 1990s Class C RV for four transformative years was a defining chapter. This journey allowed me to not just traverse the roadways as a seasoned technician but also to understand intimately the trials and triumphs of being a full-time family camper. It was a journey that didn’t merely equip me with technical expertise but instilled in me a profound sense of empathy and understanding toward the challenges RVers face.

Transitioning into the RV realm professionally, I acquired numerous certifications in repair, inspection, and maintenance, understanding the labyrinth of concerns that can cloud the RV experience. From supply chain hurdles to warranty intricacies and quality control, I’ve navigated these complexities firsthand. My aspiration is clear—to empower you through these challenges, offering not just solutions but also knowledge and unwavering support.

Beyond the mechanics, it’s about establishing connections with customers, fostering bonds that endure, and facilitating collaboration between OEMs, manufacturers, dealers, and fellow campers. These meaningful relationships aren’t forged in traditional boardrooms but thrive in the shared camaraderie of a campground. Always remember, lasting connections are cultivated through proactive strategies and empowerment, embracing an informal and community-oriented approach rather than adhering to corporate formalities. This comprehensive approach to the RVing lifestyle transforms every journey into a captivating narrative, where every element becomes a tale worth sharing.

In this innovative journey, I see myself not just as a consultant but as a storyteller, weaving together the experiences of individual campers, the passion of manufacturers, and the dedication of dealers into a tapestry that celebrates the diverse and vibrant RVing community. It’s about breaking away from the conventional and embracing a new era where the RV experience is not just a transaction but a shared adventure.

As we navigate the winding roads of the camping landscape, my goal is to empower each stakeholder, from campers seeking reliable guidance to businesses looking for inventive marketing strategies. Together, we’ll create a harmonious ecosystem where the joy of RVing is elevated to new heights, and everyone involved feels like a valued part of the journey. Let’s not just fix problems; let’s reimagine possibilities and craft a narrative that resonates with the heart and soul of the RVing experience.

So, whether you’re seeking guidance on intricate mechanics, crafting innovative marketing strategies, or simply a fireside chat about overcoming the challenges that come with life on the open road, I’m here as your virtual travel companion—armed with adaptability, warmth, and an unwavering dedication to enhancing your RVing escapades.

Step aboard this exciting journey with me, and let’s craft stories that not only navigate challenges but also celebrate the joys and treasured memories that define the heart and soul of the camping experience!

A Legacy of Service

This business is dedicated to my father and mentor Jasper “Lonnie” Wright, JR December 15, 1929-January 1, 2019

I grew up in a garage, the daughter of a coal-miner and self-taught master grease monkey, who gained a love for learning how things worked at a very young age. Some of my earliest memories are sitting on the cold concrete floor of a chilly diesel shop late into the night watching my father and uncle build a Mack coal truck from the ground up. It was amazing to see them take so many small pieces and make such an enormous vehicle. To the best of my knowledge, that truck is still on the road somewhere in the hills of Eastern Kentucky (our home).

From then on, I made it one of my life’s goals to never stop learning what makes things work from the inside out. Unfortunately, my love for taking things apart in the shop was not received very enthusiastically by my mother at first, primarily because she wasn’t nearly as fond of trying to clean grease out of my school clothes and Sunday dresses as I was of putting grease on them! 🙂 Eventually, she figured out that I wasn’t going to stop and decided it would just be best for me to have my own “work clothes”. I spent my entire childhood happily following Dad around the garage, watching and learning as much as I could, soaking in all of his self-taught, country boy wisdom.

The passion for his work (he didn’t retire until his late 80s!), huge heart, patience, and guidance always pointed me in the right direction. He was so supportive and encouraging in our decision to become full-time RVers even when so many others thought we were crazy. His words helped to inspire us to not only hit the road, but to learn how these things worked so we could be more self-sufficient and also have the ability to help others. We started our journey intending to learn how fix our own issues (stay tuned for more on that on our Blog later), but after I took my first consumer based RV Maintenance course I was hooked, it seemed a natural fit for me and I know he would be proud that I still don’t mind getting covered in dirt and grease! LOL

This one is for you Dad. Your job here is done, take a break, we’ll finish up <3

YOU are our why!

Our Mission

It is our primary mission as a woman-owned and operated business, to always be advocates for our fellow female RVers. Especially when it comes to furthering their knowledge of RV repair, but also to assist with RVing education in general. Our hope is that helping women to feel empowered by sharing our knowledge and skills with them, will encourage more females (especially young women) to pursue career fields within the RV industry in general.

We will never discriminate based on race, gender/gender identity, sexual orientation (LGBTQ+), age, social status, disability, or for any other logical reason. Now, if you kick dogs or aren’t a fan of women doing labor intensive work, we may not be the right choice for you.

As a small token of our appreciation for your service and sacrifices, we offer a 10% discount on labor rates to our Military members (retired, disabled, and active duty with valid ID) & first responders (including working travel nurses & physicians).

Since starting our journey as a female RV technician & inspection team, we have often been confronted with the same question, “Soooo, what made YOU decide to do THIS kind of work?” Well, we know this isn’t what many people would consider a “typical” career for women, but luckily, we aren’t the type of gals who give power to stereotypes and we enjoy a challenge. When we, as a family, made the decision to join the ranks of full-time RVers, we also made a commitment to ourselves to become as self-reliant as possible. For years, we heard the horror stories of people waiting sometimes weeks or months to get their rigs repaired and we didn’t want to fall into that trap, especially since we would no longer have a sticks and bricks house to rely on if/when the time for repairs came.

Our goal was to learn as much as we could about the inner-workings of RVs, so we made the choice to buy an older RV that would need some renovation and be a bit of a fixer-upper. In the process, we ended up living, workamping, and taking classes at the National RV Training Academy over a 10 month time period. During that journey, I (April) discovered a few major things: 1. My love of trouble-shooting was now my best friend. 2. There were not nearly enough trained or qualified RV technicians out there. 3. There were incredibly few female RV technicians. Those realizations were some of the primary reasons we decided to pursue this business.

Before we even started our full-time RV life, we were already members of several female-oriented and family RV groups online. We saw this as an essential part of our RV education, we needed to know the good, the bad, and the ugly and who better to get that from than those like us who were already living it?  We read countless inspiring tales from amazing women that just fueled the flames of our RV dreams even further, but we also found many stories of concern, primarily based around safety and fears of being taken advantage of from solo-female RVers. One of the issues that we saw time and time again revolved around the ability to get help when they were having problems with their campers. Many shared fears of being taken advantage of by mechanics and technicians because of their gender, which is a sad, but true fact that many women face. The more we discovered, the stronger our desire to help become advocates for female RVers everywhere became and that was when Do It Wright RV Services went from a pipe dream to a reality.

So, to our RVing ladies, full-time RV families, RV couples young and old, and yes solo gentlemen, you too…YOU are our why. Making sure that your RVing experience is the best and safest it can be is our number one priority. Whether you are full-time RVer or weekend camper, we promise to always offer you reliable, efficient, professional mobile RV repair & inspection services by making sure we do it right the first time.

We are proud members of the RV Women’s Alliance and strive to empower other women to join the RV industry. We encourage you to learn more about their vision by visiting www.rvwa.org

As long as I was old enough to drive, I have always been a lover of the great American road trip. It didn’t matter to me if the destination was 50 miles away or 500, I was always up for spending time behind the wheel exploring our beautiful countryside. Eventually, my love of travel evolved to a management career in the airline industry, which afforded me the ability to travel further than I ever dreamed this small-town girl from Eastern Kentucky would ever go. In my experience, once the travel bug bites you, it’s a disease you never find a cure for, it only leaves you wanting more.

So, after many years of working long hours (sometimes up to 90 hours a week) in corporate America,  we had a family meeting and decided we were all sick of me being tied to a desk and us losing precious time together.  We had always planned to become RVers during retirement, but when life threw us some unexpected curveballs, we made a dramatic decision…we decided not to wait. You never know what tomorrow will hold and we didn’t want to waste any more time. I decided to take my love of travel, my passion for fixing things, and my family on the road. We just happened to have been blessed with an amazing daughter who is a killer trouble-shooter and technically inclined as well, so it’s really been a win/win!

In 2018, I decided to take a gap year before college to travel with my family. Until then, the only road I had cared about was the one that would eventually take me to a degree in aerospace engineering (my entire life I had only ever wanted to work for NASA). Less than a year later, however, I had developed a fondness for RV-ing that I hadn’t anticipated, and after watching my Mom take the RV tech classes at the National RV Training Academy, I decided I wanted to alter my course. I fell in love with the challenge of troubleshooting the variety of issues that are unique to RVs. Repairing and renovating different types of rigs offered me a similar sense of variety and fulfillment that I had felt when doing summer Space programs building weather balloons and robots. When I discovered that there was a huge need for trained RV Techs, especially females, in the RV world/industry, I realized I could do something I enjoy while helping others.

As the youngest female certified RV technician (at the time of my certification) I have already faced some challenges within our industry. Being young and female in a predominately male industry, sadly, my work ethic and skills are frequently questioned. I hope to be able to inspire other young women by doing something I’m passionate about even if it’s not the “norm”. Traveling, being a student of life, and assisting people within the RV community is what truly drives me now. That and well, to be honest…I HATE cold weather! One of the many reasons I love traveling is because I can always be somewhere above 70 degrees! After growing up in Ohio, I decided I don’t want to see snow (or a temperature below the 60s)  again unless I absolutely have to. Deciding to become a full-time RVer and RV technician has expanded my world in ways I never could have imagined previously. While traveling I have met, assisted, and befriended many incredible people who I’d have never met if I never took this opportunity, and I look forward to meeting more in the future.
